The Readiness of Quality Function Deployment Theory Implementation Among the SME Apparel in Malaysia: A Review

In order to penetrate the demands of customer requirements, the implementation of Quality Function Deployment (QFD) theory has been identified as a distinguished strategy, which is responsible in transforming customer requirements into product development or services. QFD has been adapted in most of the major manufacturer in Japan and United States and has been proven to reduce material waste and times production while improving the quality of product design. This shows that, the use of QFD can help SMEs entrepreneurs to improve their productivity and services in order to accommodate international markets. However, SMEs are facing challenges to implement and integrate QFD due to some factors. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to provide a review of the readiness among the SMEs in Malaysia apparel industry in implementing QFD. The method to review the perception and feedback from the SMEs are via survey and phone interviews among the apparel SMEs that are registered with SME Corp Malaysia. Analysis from the feedback was used to get the first impression of the level of readiness and current knowledge of the SMEs in order to stimulate QFD implementation in apparel Malaysia Industry in the future.
