Testing the Mediating Effect of Training Motivation in the Military Training Program

This quantitative research aims are to investigate and quantify the effect of training motivation in the military training. According to the training literature, there are ample evidences about the role of training motivation as a mediator in relationship of training program and training transfer, but this phenomenon was given less attention during the development of training program. Therefore, this study was conducted to measure the role of training motivation as a mediator between training programs and training transfer. A Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was performed to assess the validity and reliability of the instrument using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) generated by SmartPLS, thus test the research hypotheses. The measurement were using 382 usable questionnaires gathered from other enlisted ranks of Malaysian Army infantry corps. The outcomes of hypotheses testing showed these interesting findings: firstly, relationship between training motivation and training syllabus significantly correlated with training transfer. Secondly, relationship between training motivation and instructors’ roles significantly correlated with training transfer. Statistically, this result confirms that training motivation does act as an important mediating variable in the relationship between training program and training transfer in the organizational sample.
