Investigation of the Thermal Performance of Solar Thermal Collector Provided with Impinging Air Jets

The present study examines the thermal performance of impinging air jets in a duct flow of solar air collector. The impinging air jets increases the rate of heat transfer and thus enhances its thermal efficiency. An experimental investigation has been carried out to study the effect of geometric parameters viz. streamwise pitch, spanwise pitch, jet diameter and operating parameter such as flow Reynolds number in an impinging jet solar thermal collector. It has been observed that the impinging air jets extracts high amount of thermal energy due to high convective heat transfer coefficient exhibited in the impingement region. The maximum enhancement of about 25–57.89% in thermal efficiency has been achieved as a result of providing impinging air jets in a solar air collector duct compared to that of conventional solar air collector.
