Thermal Analysis of Collector for a 100 kW (CW) Power Klystron

High CW power klystrons are having wide applications in various accelerator based systems and ongoing research in the area of high energy physics as a source of microwave power. Thermal analysis of collector for a klystron designer becomes very critical for high CW power tubes, as the energy in the spent electron beam may lead to damage of collector in case of inappropriate thermal management. The present paper shall discuss the detailed thermal analysis of collector for a 352.2 MHz, 100 kW (CW) klystron which is being developed at CSIR-CEERI, Pilani. The design includes analytical calculation for various simulation parameters following the thermal simulation of collector using ANSYS (Multi-physics) for optimizing all design parameters like cooling channel dimensions, water flow rate etc.
