State of the Art in Business Process Modeling and Execution Standard
For business sustainability in a global competitive, Business-to-Business (B2B) collaboration becomes one of most important factor. Due to the emergence of Internet and Communication Technology (ICT), the service integration focuses on the system perspective as well as the workflow perspective. However, due to the heterogeneity of business process, B2B collaboration is a complex task. Consequently, the development of business process modeling and execution standard is an inevitable but must-be-overcome problem. With the emerging of e-commerce and the integrating of enterprise boundaries, many standards in business process modeling and execution have emerged and enriched by new approaches of different vendors and initiatives. However, there are few efforts to evaluate the genealogy and the relationship of these various standards. This paper provides the state of the art in business process modeling and execution standards. In particular, standards are evaluated with three perspectives—the phase of business process development, the initiatives, and the viewpoints of message exchange.
