Examining the Relationship Between Corporate Social Responsibility, Job Satisfaction and Organizational Commitment: A Comparative Study of POSCO and Baosteel

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a concept whereby companies integrate social and environmental concerns in their business operations and in their interaction with stakeholders on a voluntary basis. Under the circumstance of globalization, CSR has been highly valued and regarded as the basic business strategy. This paper conducts a comparative empirical study to exam the relationship between CSR, job satisfaction and organizational commitment in POSCO and Baosteel, respectively After reviewing annual CSR reports of the two companies and summarizing previous literature on CSR, job satisfaction and organizational commitment, this study divides CSR into four specific dimensions: workplace policy, environment policy, customer policy and social/community policy Our empirical results indicate a positive relationship between CSR, job satisfaction and organizational commitment. The level of job satisfaction and organizational commitment of the two companies is different from each other. The results provide practical implications for both companies to improve CSR practices to enhance job satisfaction, organizational commitment and their competitiveness.
