A recommender system aims to provide users with personalized online product or service recommendations to handle the increasing information overload from web or online applications. Recently, many kinds of recommender system software have been developed for a variety of applications domain and different sort of recommender system techniques have been proposed for the implementation. As this research area is increasing and found to offer great opportunities and challenges for the community, it is thus vital that a review of current trends should be conducted, not only on the approaches but also on the successful deployment. This paper provides brief descriptions on the recommender system approaches and the relevant similarity techniques. Then, several implementations of recommendation system with regards to the approaches, techniques and application domain are identified. As the existences of recommender system for hadith domain has not been found from the review, this paper further introduces the suitable conceptual framework.
