Groundwater Quality for Irrigation and Drinking Purpose in Jagdalpur Area, Bastar District, Chattisgarh, India
Water Quality Index is a tool not only to identify the status of the present water quality scenario with respect to priority of parameter against weight value but also to assess the allocation wise suitability towards quality of water. In this paper, water quality index is developed to assess the groundwater scenario of Jagdalpur city. This paper investigates groundwater quality for drinking and irrigation purposes. Water samples were collected from 20 places of different sites of Jagdalpur area to analyze the various physico-chemical parameters. The assessment of water quality has been made by calculating water quality index (WQI) for drinking purposes and total salt concentration (EC), Sodium percentage (Na%), Residual carbonate (RSC), Sodium adsorption ratio (SAR), Permeability index (PI), Magnesium hazard (MH) are important in assessing the suitability of water for irrigation for physico-chemical parameters of different sites. For calculating WQI, various parameters such as pH, EC, Total hardness, Total alkalinity, Sulphate, Chloride, Calcium, Magnesium, and Dissolve Oxygen have been considered. The study spread over three seasons namely pre monsoon (PRM), post monsoon (POM) and winter (WNT).
