A Study of Artificial Neural Network Classification Using Binary Image Representation for Printed Odia Character Recognition

Last few decades have experienced substantial research in the field of optical character recognition throughout the globe for hundreds of writin languages. But as compared to the global scenario, very few works has been reported for Indian languages. This work explores the recognition of one such language called Odia the native language of the state of Odisha. In this work we have used one of the established recognition methods of English language called ANN classification to recognise Odia characters using binary image representation. However, we finally show that this method does not perform well and urge for the design of new techniques for Odia languages.
