Application of Wireless Sensor Networks and Artificial Intelligence in Citrus Industry
Consumption of fruits has increased due to their nutritional and health benefits. In this line the fruit industry is in great growth, resulting therefore necessary to improve all these processes, in order to process increasing amounts of fruits with high quality. In this work we propose the application of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) and Expert Systems to improve the citrus processes allowing a real time control and remote monitoring. In each cold store, there are a strategically distributed set of sensors and actuators that are interconnected by means of a WSN. The gateway node centralizes all the information, perform the appropriate treatment and storage, and enables the remote control and monitoring. System has been deployed in several citrus plants, its operation being studied and validated. As a result, it has been shown not only proper operation but all the advantages of this new paradigm, highlighting the ease of deployment, the intuitive use and improved quality of the processes of conservation and degreening.
