Design of a Low-Cost Gamma Corrector with an Optimized Piecewise Linear Approximation Method
We have developed a low-cost gamma corrector for a Charge-Coupled Device (CCD) camera and have proposed an optimized piecewise linear approximation method. We have improved and optimized the conventional methods. To simplify hardware after gamma correction, the proposed corrector compresses dynamically the 10-bit CCD image to 8-bit data. The optimized segmentation method minimizes the size of the look-up table (LUT) and the estimation error. To support diverse devices and multi-standard video formats, the proposed compensator is capable of correcting various gamma coefficients such as 0.37, 0.40, 0.43, 0.45, 0.47 and 0.50.
