Stability Analysis of Fluid-Conveying Pipes with Supported Ends

The stability of a supported pipe conveying fluid is analyzed. The both ends of the pipe are held by the pinned supports with torsional spring constraints. The eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of a beam that has the same boundary conditions as the pipe under consideration are applied in the analysis to discretize the equation of motion with the Galerkin's method. The analytical expression of the critical flow velocity is derived for the pipe conveying steady flow and the effect of some physical parameters of the system on the critical flow velocity is discussed using the obtained expressions.
