Adsorption and Desorption Properties of Pyridine on Activated Carbon Fibers

Adsorption and desorption properties of pyridine on activated carbon nanotubes (ACFs) were studied. Electrolysis desorption and chemistry desorption were carried out separately. The absorbencies of the solutions before and after adsorption were tested. ACFs after absorption and desorption were observed with SEM. ACF doesn't have a high efficiency in adsorbing pyridine solutions. Adsorption capacity increased when the solution pH increased. After adsorption, pyridine existed as granular substance covering ACFs, which would block the pores of the ACF absorbent and weaken adsorption capability of ACF. ACFs fixed with DSA anode had a higher efficiency in desorption of pyridine than ACFs rolled with Pt. Granular pyridine covering the surface of ACFs almost disappeared under electrolysis desorption of ACFs fixed with DSA anode. Na2S2O8 showed better desorption effect than perchloric acid because hydrogen peroxide generated by sodium peroxydisulfate easily changes pyridine to pyridine N-Oxide.
