The concept of damage limit is proposed in this paper, and then the connotation of sub-health bridges serviceable carrying capacity and evaluation of serviceable carrying capacity are revealed. The Monte Carlo Simulation is adopted to reconstruct random traffic and its load effect, by which the similarities and differences between the reliability of sub-health and newly constructed bridges are analyzed. An initial theoretical framework on the operating load limit of sub-health bridges is established, further, the method of determining operating load limit is explained through actual engineering examples. Base on the study in this paper, new ways to the safety, reasonableness and application of sub-health bridge are developed.
