Influence of Doping on the Electrochemical Properties of Li4Ti5O12

Spinel Li4Ti5O12, owing to its excellent electrochemical properties, has been used as anode material for lithiumion batteries. During the charging–discharging cycle, it exhibits almost no structural change. As such, it has been called a “zero strain” material. Here, we have investigated the influence of doping on the electrochemical properties of Li4Ti5O12 and found that doping with certain elements such as Mg, Cu, Mn, Cr, Al, C improved the electrochemical properties and cycle performance of Li4Ti5O12. Specifically, doping has increased its conductivity, diffusion coefficient and cycle life due to the extra ions introduced by doping.
