The current work focuses on the synthesis of metal and metal oxide nanoparticles and their application in tribology. This work deals with optimising the important parameters of tribology such as friction, wear and lubrication. Here, ISO GRADE 68 lube oil is chosen as a lubricant in order to reduce the wear of the machinery caused by friction. In this work, the main objective is to test the efficiency of the nanoparticles in reducing the coefficient of friction and in improving the wear resistance. It is done by adding the synthesized nanoparticles CuO, Fe3O4 and Cu with the percentage of 0.01, 0.25 and 0.5 in the form of nanofluids prepared with the help of ultrasonic sonicator. Efficiency of the nanoparticles in reducing the friction is done by the four ball tester. Scar diameter is measured by optical microscope. The Scanning Electron Microscope Analysis shows the surface morphology before and after four ball test.
