Microwave-Assisted Synthesis and Antimicrobial Activities of Some Indenones

A series of novel aniline derivatives of N-(3-Hydro-3-phenyl[1, 2] benzacyclo pentaindenylidene) derived from Inden-1-one were synthesized in good yields(62–78) in a simple procedure using microwave irradiation and then characterized by spectroscopy studies. The compounds were evaluated for their in vitro antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella typhi. and in vitro antifungal activity agaist Aspergillus flavus, Rhizopus sp., Mucor, Microsporum gypseum of all the compounds screened for activity some of the compounds were associated with considerably higher antibacterial and antifungal activity than commercial antibiotics.
