Vicissitudes: Retirement with a Long Post-Retirement Future
With baby boomers' increased time spent in retirement, this cohort will face challenges spurred by the technology revolution. With inflation at 3 percent a year, after thirty years, the money baby boomers retire with will be worth half as much as it is now, straining how they pay for
health- and long-term care. All retirees need to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Due to medical advances all can continue sexual activity throughout life. Health professionals need to detect decline in functional capacity early, e.g., using the Rapid Geriatric Assessment, and to institute early
secondary prevention. Technology will enable enhanced function.
