When it comes to textiles that can make a difference in people's lives, fire retardant (FR) treated fabrics are certainly at the top of the list. That's because, in many instances, these textiles can actually help prevent fires or protect people's lives.

“FR technologies and products are important because human life is important,” says Jeff Strahan, senior research scientist for Milliken & Co. “Our products protect people and save lives.”

“Furniture, furnishings, beds and beddings, drapes and curtains, which are all easily ignitable, present a potential fire hazard,” says Anke Vollenbroeker, head of marketing, business development and communications for Trevira. “Once a fabric catches fire, it can contribute substantially to spreading the flames in the room or building. Therefore in the contract business, textiles which fulfill local and international safety standards are a must.”
