Apparel design involves science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Mathematics in particular is a key component of apparel design (Salo-Mattila, 2014; Workman & Ahn, 2011) as are spatial visualization skills, both essential for STEM learning (Workman & Caldwell, 2007). In addition, connections between STEM activities and fashion and design have been demonstrated to increase student interest in learning programming (Lau, Ngai, Chan, & Cheung, 2009).
