Open Access Comprehensive evaluation index system for engineering modes of regional wholesale market in fruit and vegetable production base

Abstract: Under given environmental impact and conditional constraint, in order to satisfy the demand for project investment, operation and policy, the engineering mode of agricultural product wholesale market in production areas was formed gradually during the interaction among subject organization, object processing and technical equipment. Finally, the engineering mode of agricultural product wholesale market in the major production areas was a stable and orderly internal relation structure of subject organization, object processing and technical equipment, as well as the external form of them. Comprehensive evaluation on engineering mode of agricultural product wholesale market in the major production areas is the key issue to optimize the agricultural product market. The wholesale market of fruits and vegetables plays a leading role in selling agricultural products from the large production areas. The modernized engineering mode of wholesale market of fruits and vegetables manifests as useful to decrease operating cost, reduce the loss of agricultural products, as well as improve its quality. The aim of this study was to analyze the modernization level of engineering mode of the regional wholesale market in fruit and vegetable production areas, as well as to find out the problem of engineering mode of for certain markets. Based on the information of literature, field investigations and scientific research, methods were developed for construction of comprehensive evaluation index system to evaluate engineering mode of the regional agricultural products wholesale market in the major production areas. Based on the established method and with a consideration of the technology, economy, social, ecology and suitability, the developed indexes were used for the purpose of improving modernization level of wholesale market engineering mode. The weights of these indexes were reckoned by use of comparison matrix of analytic hierarchy process built in the software of MATLAB7.6. Partial classification criteria of evaluation indices system were built by combined method of qualitative analysis and quantitative calculation. Jidong vegetable wholesale market in Laoting city, Hebei province was used as a case study. The framework for comprehensive evaluation index system for engineering mode of the regional wholesale market in the fruits and vegetables production base was made up with three grades and 11 indices. The comprehensive evaluated score of Jidong vegetable wholesale market in Laoting city, Hebei province was 2.721, which indicated that the engineering mode of this market presented an intermediate modernization level. This conclusion was in accord with the field investigation result. The evaluation index system had characteristics of comprehension and combination of quantity and quality. During construction of wholesale market in the major production area, the comprehensive evaluation index system would be used to offer scientific basis for estimating the modernization level of engineering mode, analyzing weak links in the market, and proposing the areas of improving or upgrading.
