Monitoring surface water storage in the north Kent marshes using Landsat TM images
A system has been developed that uses remote sensing data for the determination of the quantity of surface water stored in a network of ditches. The method combines Landsat TM images with ditch positions obtained from maps in order to derive 'Ditch Indices'. The results of the analysis show that the system is promising. The presence of the sub-pixel size ditches was clearly detected in the image and the monospectral 'Ditch Indices' correlated strongly with each other and with ground measurements.
