Computers in industry: Diebold's view from mid-century
We now use computers throughout factories and manufacturing. It is easy to look back and say certain things were obvious and predictable. How easy was this in the late 1940s and early 1950s when the field was young and just developing? In this retrospective, we review a comprehensive discussion by John Diebold in 1952 to answer this and other questions.
