Stamping die design based on numerical simulation and knowledge systematization
Diemakers have, in recent years, been asked to deliver sheet forming tools more swiftly and at lower cost. However, it is their traditional design methodology that most holds them back. This paper proposes a new approach, combining the use of numerical simulation with the design-aid system CAETROK. In many cases it is on the basis of numerical simulation results that decisions are taken regarding die design. The CAETROK system incorporates modules that assist one to produce the preliminary die design. These same modules provide the characteristics of the material used in the numerical simulation, as well as solutions to those various failures that may arise during simulation or on press tests.
