Preparation of Nanometer-scale α -Fe2O3 Particles via a Complex Thermo-decomposition Method

Nanometer-scale α -Fe2O3 particles are prepared by the thermo-decomposition of a new Fe3 + complex with o-nitrobenzoic acid as a ligand. The structure and properties of the Fe3 + complex are revealed and confirmed by FT-IR and TG-DTA, and the α -Fe2O3 nanoparticles are characterized by TEM, XRD, and BET. The results indicate that the yield and dispersion of the α -Fe2O3 nanoparticles can be controlled via an addition of sodium dodecylsulfonate as a surfactant and under certain experimental conditions.
