Reactions of the μ 3-sulfido dicobalt-iron cluster (μ 3-S)FeCo2(CO)9 with triphenylphosphine or 1,4-bis(diphenylphosphino)butane

Reaction of (μ 3-S)FeCo2(CO)9 (A) with PPh3 at room temperature in CH2Cl2 gave μ 3-sulfido dicobalt-iron clusters (μ 3-S)FeCo2(CO)8(PPh3) (1) and (μ 3-S)FeCo2(CO)7(PPh3)2 (2) in 37 and 54% yields, whereas reaction of A with 1,4-bis(diphenylphosphino)butane (Ph2PCH2CH2CH2CH2PPh2, dppb) afforded [(μ 3-S)FeCo2(CO)8]2(Ph2PCH2CH2CH2CH2PPh2) (3) in 49% yield. Complexes 1–3 were characterized by elemental analysis, spectroscopy, and for 1 and 3 by X-ray crystallography.
