Luminescence properties of YBO3:Eu3+ crystallised from borosilicate glass
Nanocrystalline YBO3:Eu3+ dispersed glasses were prepared utilising the spinodal-type phase separation of Na2O–B2O3–SiO2 glass. The YBO3:Eu3+ crystals were selectively precipitated inside the Na2O–B2O3 phase after heat treatment of the obtained glasses above 800°C, and the size of which was estimated to be around 15 nm by use of the Scherrer equation. The local structure around Eu3+ ions was estimated from extended x-ray absorption fine structure results using synchrotron radiation. The formation of YBO3:Eu3+ in the glasses, which is strongly related to the emission properties, was found to be affected by the addition of a small amount of Al2O3.
