Dictyostelium annularibasimum was described from Jiangsu Province, China based on morphological and molecular evidences. It is characterized by a loop structure and clustered habit. The internally transcribed spacer (ITS) of the nuclear ribosomal DNA was sequenced and found to be distinct from all previously described sequences. Phylogenetic analyses suggest this new isolate to be included in group 4 of a comprehensive phylogeny of dictyostelids, together with Dictyostelium purpureum.
