Validation of the name Codium arenicola M.E. Chacana & P.C. Silva
The name Codium arenicola M.E. Chacana & P.C. Silva is validated by the provision of a description (in English) and the designation of a holotype (from Sulawesi, Indonesia). The species is characterized by a holdfast comprising a plexus of sand-binding rhizoids and by sparse dichotomous branching with unusually long internodes. Codium arenicola occurs widely in the Indo-Pacific on sandy bottoms at moderate depths (20–40 m).
