A new species, Jungermannia (subg. Solenostoma) cheniana C. Gao, Y.-H. Wu & R. Grolle from Yunnan, China is described and illustrated. It is differentiated from all hitherto known species of the Jungermanniaceae s. str. by its leaves and perianth wall composed of (2 or) 3 layers of cells, the two inner layers of larger, thin-walled cells.
