Perspectives of postcolonial studies from the point of view of francophone African German studies : the example of the journal "Mont Cameroun" For the last three decades the field of German Studies at universities in francophone Africa constituted itself as part of the colonial heritage. While at its inception the question of the identity of the subject, namely the differentiation between the conceptualisation of the subject from the point of view of a mother tongue or a foreign language speaker never came up, this question is now more relevant than ever before. Germans have a different attitude towards their language and culture, as it should be, so that a dialogue with foreign countries is possible in the first place. By referring to post-colonial theory this paper seeks to describe some teaching and research areas which allow a progressive approach to German Studies within an African context. German Studies within this context needs a profile and a vision, if it wants to be taken seriously in terms of its African perspective and if it wants to ensure its continued existence.
