"Distorting history into the truth". Historiographical meta-fiction in Ilija Trojanow and Thomas Stangl In this article two texts are compared which have been read as postmodern historical novels: Ilija Trojanows Der Weltensammler (The Collector of Worlds) und Thomas Stangls Der einzige Ort (The only Place). The novels both deal with history and historical facts. However, although both (historical) novels display meta-fictional elements and deal with 19th century colonialism, their narrative structure differs essentially, as illustrated, for instance, by their different narrative perspectives. This paper investigates these structural differences by clarifying their relation to the meta-fictional narrative.
