Taboos and taboo related actions in German and African folk tales This paper investigates the ambivalent and complex topic of taboos in German and African folk tales through a comparative analysis of religious structures which are present in both cultural systems. It is shown that causes and effects of breaking taboos in every day life, are culturally determined and linked to questions of morality. Furthermore it is demonstrated that social progress is impossible without breaking taboos.
