Between criticism and affirmation: The action group Banat. Contributions towards German-Romanian literature in the 1970s At the beginning of the 1970's a group of authors constituted the Aktionsgruppe Banat in Timisoara. The work of this group has decisively influenced contemporary German Literature in Romania. Because of the Aktionsgruppe Banat German-language writing from Romania became also an integral part of German literature. Its members made the respective social, political and cultural environment an important premise of their understanding of their role as writers. Working within a circle of friends with a shared sense belonging to a German-speaking minority in the Banat, and a shared sense of opposition to, petty bourgeois narrow-mindedness and to the Romanian regime at the time, these authors evince common strategies in their writing.
