Sociodemographic and Cultural Factors Influencing Adjustment to Bereavement in Umuahia, Southern Nigeria

This study investigated the evidence of adjustment to bereavement, using sociodemographic factors such as place of residence, gender, income, and education. The mixed-method approach of data collection and analysis were employed in the study. The study subjects consisted of 580 respondents (302 females and 278 males) aged 18 years and above. Chi-square (χ²) testing was used to test research hypotheses. The result revealed a statistically significant relationship between respondents’ sex and their views on whether males adjust to bereavement faster than females. Therefore, the study concludes that income, gender, and education could be applied widely to the problems of bereavement.
