Twenty Romanian veterinarians from nine private clinics and a veterinary state faculty were interviewed on pet loss. Four themes were brought into discussion: the role of a pet in the owner's life, the reaction to loss, euthanasia, and the medical system related to pet loss counseling. Twelve of the veterinarians interviewed live from a “dual perspective” on the loss of a pet: as a physician on the one hand and as a pet owner on the other. In this descriptive analysis, we found that in both cases expression of emotions and feelings is not ignored. However, the grief is more intense when the loss involves their pet.
