abstract = "This article makes a (programmatic) plea for constraints in the use of colour in electronic writing. 'Spontaneous', 'free', 'unconstrained' use of colour, it is argued, impoverishes both the creative and the communicative aspects of typographic design in digital environments, whereas constrained or rule-governed design can prove a powerful strategy in enhancing creativity and communication. A special plea is made for minimalism, which can be considered one of the most efficient forms of constrained writing.",
