A decade ago, Roger Keil launched the “Global Suburbanisms” project, a large, transnational collaborative investigation of the intricate patterns and processes reshaping metropolitan peripheries around the world. In this commentary, I consider how Keil’s project offers fresh insights on the speed and spatiality of global evolution as well as current debates between postcolonial urbanism and planetary urbanization.
