Afterwardness and the Postrelational Turn
In this article, I examine the implications of having come of age in a postrelational turn psychoanalysis, describing some advantages and complications that emerge when inheriting an already relationalized clinical world, one in which two-personness is a given and valorizing relationships over drives isn’t really even a question. I conclude that those trained with never having known the relational canon as something opposed to the classical are missing—and perhaps misunderstanding—important aspects of our theory and praxis.
