Biosecurity and wine tourism: is a vineyard a farm?
Wine tourism is a rapidly growing area of the wine and tourism industries that involves the mobility of significant numbers of people around wine regions, vineyards and wineries. However, despite such movement little consideration has been given to biosecurity concerns. This paper details
a survey of wine tourists in New Zealand and a preliminary assessment of the biosecurity risk they represent. The paper concludes that better information campaigns as well as biosecurity strategies are required to minimise the biosecurity risks inherent in wine tourism.
