Until a short time ago, in German speaking countries there has neither been a periodical dealing primarily with interdisciplinary research of the Middle Ages, nor has there been a forum for regular publications in other languages. Wishing to close this gap, the journal Mediaevistik therefore pursues two aims: 1. To publish research which deals with studies within the many different categories of the Middle Ages as a subject, and 2. to offer a forum for papers in all other important European languages and thus stressing and furthering the internationality of this particular field of research. The time frame is approx. the 8th to the early 16th century, corresponding with the geographical boundaries of Latin Christianity in the High Middle Ages. But we are currently expanding that scope and try to embrace, at least carefully, the Global Middle Ages.

Plagiarism check and use of AI
To ensure academic standards, Peter Lang uses the plagiarism detection software iThenticate for all submitted contributions. This software automatically compares the texts with a large database of previously published content and highlights any overlaps. The results serve purely as a technical indication; the editorial team, together with the journal editor, is solely responsible for assessing and interpreting the findings.

In light of technological advances, we explicitly point out that the use of AI tools in the preparation of scholarly works is not permitted.
