China in the Global Economy National Accounts for China: Sources and Methods (Complete Edition ‐ ISBN 926418550X)
Policy dialogue with China requires reliable economic and social statistics. This book gives detailed information about the methods and data sources used to estimate one of the most important statistics for China ‐ the national accounts. It is the first time that detailed information of this kind has been published outside China. The introduction summarises the strengths and weaknesses of the methods used. It notes that many of the basic statistics underlying the accounts are unreliable but that the Chinese statisticians are aware of this and make efforts to correct them. Particular problems are noted with the estimates for the output of industry and services. At the same time, the comprehensive information supplied by the National Bureau of Statistics for this report shows that the Bureau is committed to transparency and is open to suggestions for improving the national accounts estimates.
