A general review of urticaria is given with emphasis upon the classification, etiology and causative mechanisms of urticaria. Treatment modalities are then introduced for the various types of urticaria. Finally, a comprehensive discussion is presented concerning the role of H1 and H2 antagonists in the treatment of urticaria and a comparison is made between the various H1 and H2 antagonists currently available for therapy.
