Minding the Community's Business
In the 21st century, businesses — corporations, partnerships, sole proprietors — are omnipresent. We don’t think twice about being able to find familiar national chain stores thousands of miles from where we live, even in other countries. We rely on businesses, big and small, to make the necessities of life available to us. But this wasn't always the case. Business of today's scope and scale is a relatively new phenomenon, and it has changed our most basic relationships — with food, land, housing, clothing, transportation, work and even ourselves.
