Platinum Metal Salts and Complexes as Homogeneous Catalysts
Olefin complexes of the platinum group metals have recently been recognised as intermediates in a number of homogeneous catalytic processes. Among the reactions undergone by co-ordinated olefins are oxidation, isomerisation, hydrogenation and polymerisation. The oxidation of olefins
to aldehydes or ketones catalysed by palladium chloride is already an important commercial process, and it seems likely that many other similar reactions will achieve prominence in the future.
