Harnessing the Power of the Sabbatical: Providing Strategic Guidance to Faculty Developers
One of the most powerful faculty development resources for tenured faculty across the academy is the sabbatical. Despite benefits realized by faculty members and their institutions, there are few resources available to faculty developers or campus leaders to provide strategic guidance
and mentorship throughout all phases of the sabbatical experience. The aim of this manuscript is to highlight the three phases of the sabbatical (pre-sabbatical and proposal preparation, during mid- sabbatical, post-sabbatical) and offer action steps and critical considerations to guide faculty
developers as they seek to support faculty members as they navigate this career development resource.
