Editorial

Some of the articles in this issue on digital consciousness have been presented at the international interdisciplinary conference 'The Science of Consciousness' at Interlaken in June 2019. Among several other institutions and private donors, this conference was partially sponsored by the Society for Mind-Matter Research. It was also substantially supported by Collegium Helveticum, a transdisciplinary research institute jointly operated by ETH Zurich, University of Zurich, and the Zurich University of the Arts. As the focal theme of the Collegium until the end of 2020 has been the study of 'digital societies' in general, the present special issue suggests itself as a contribution to the Collegium's research agenda
