Pattern and Form - Their Influence on Segmental Plate Shells
Segmental shells are shell structures composed of planar plates. However, connections between the plates disturb the material continuity and thus the stiffness of the entire structure. The joint pattern is therefore of crucial importance for structural integrity. In this paper, the
results of studies on polyhedral patterns, as well as the Landesgartenschau Exhibition Hall as a successful case study for a timber shell made of prefabricated planar plates, are presented.
