Following Foucault's analysis of governmentality, the paper examines spaces of assisted living for the homeless as a contemporary field of governing. The paper proposes to analyse the problematizations and practices that currently constitute the governing of homelessness and to understand spaces of care for the homeless as a specific field of governmental intervention. Building on an empirical case study in Berlin, the paper retraces the problematizations of homelessness and practices of support, activation and normalization that shape assisted living facilities and discusses what the governing of homelessness in these spaces can tell us about contemporary answers to exclusion in the city.
