Ultra- and Hypersonic Properties of the Critical n-Amylic Alcohol-Nitromethane Mixture. A Comparison with the Theories of Fixman and Chaban

Experimental results for the propagation velocity coefficient of ultra- and hypersonic acoustic waves in the critical system n-amylic alcohol-nitromethane are reported for two temperatures. A comparison is made between the experimental α/f 2 values and those resulting from the theories of Fixman and Chaban. Both theories, within certain limits, agree with the values obtained by experiment.


Es werden experimentelle Ergebnisse für die Schallgeschwindigkeit von Ultra- und Hyper-schallwellen in dem kritischen System n-Amylalkohol-Nitromethan für zwei Temperaturen angegeben. Weiterhin wird ein Vergleich angestellt zwischen den experimentellen Werten für α/f 2 und denjenigen, die sich aus den Theorien von Fixman und Chaban ergeben. Beide Theorien stimmen innerhalb gewisser Grenzen mit den experimentell erhaltenen Werten überein.


On présente les résultats de mesures (à deux températures) de la vitesse de propagation et de l'atténuation des ultrasons et des hypersons dans un mélange d'alcool n-amylique et de nitro-méthane formant un système critique. On compare ensuite les valeurs expérimentales du paramètre α/f 2 avec les valeurs théoriques fournies par les théories de Fixman et de Chaban. On observe que, dans certaines limites, les deux théories s'accordent avec l'expérience.
